Hello!
My name is Natsumi Shiohira, and I run a Japanese language school.
Let me take a moment to share a bit about myself and the vision behind Tsumoru.
I used to be an elementary school teacher.
From 2013 to 2022, I taught over 300 students in Okinawa, Japan.
Because I can speak English, lotten worked with children from other countries.
I also helped improve English lessons for Japanese students as the head of English instruction.
While teaching children from different countries, l learned that just translating Japanese into English doesn't help them.
Instead of always depending on interpreters, I wanted them to learn Japanese, make friends, and enjoy life here.
This led me to study how to teach Japanese and bilingual education.
Started a Japanese language support service.
In 2022, I left my teaching job and started a Japanese language support service.
In 2024, I created Tsumoru Co. Ltd., and Tsumoru Japanese Studies to help all children learn Japanese in fun and supportive ways.
Our goal is not just to teach Japanese words, but to help children share their opinion and feelings freely in Japanese.
We also give them chances to use Japanese in real-lite situations.
Learning a new language can help children understand new ideas and experiences.
I've met many children who know a lot of Japanese words but can't speak fluently, even after years of Astudy.
That's Such a waste of their hard work!
When children say things like,
"I spoke Japanese and someone understood me!"
or
"I made a Japanese friend!"
It gives them confidence and helps them see why learning a language is important.
We are planning fun cultural exchange events that Japanese and foreign children can enjoy together.
These events will help kids feel safe and learn that it's okay to be different.
I will also share tips and ideas for learning Japanese, based on my 10 years of teaching experience.
